SohamReiki

SOHAM is a Sanskrit word which can be literally translated as I AM THAT.

It refers to the belief that God - or the ultimate source or essence of everything - lies within all of us.

The great Yoga teacher Swami Vishnudevananda described the world as:

Everything that changes is not real. The truth does not change.

Is our planet not in constant change? In constant movement? At least since the discovery of quantum physics it is clear that everything around us is in constant vibration.

And what about ourselves, our bodies? The ageing process, the constat renewal of cells?

And our minds? Aren't even our thoughts in constant rotation, jumping from one idea to the next like a monkey from tree to tree?

What about the whole universe? Other planets?

Or the spiritual realm? The different levels, the continuing development of spiritual beings, the cycle of rebirth and death?

The fact is: Everything changes. And therefore: The world is not real.

Everything we were taught in school to accept as factual - is in fact an illusion.

Just a dream. Or - in latest terms - a virtual world.

The driving idea behind this world is the concept of duality. Of separation:

God and I. I and You. Mine and yours.

This is the essence of every great religion, of every sincere spiritual discipline, of every individual path of self-discovery: To understand that there is no separation. There is only oneness.

Ridding us of the body and mind we identify with, realising that the world is just made-up, eventually leads to the one eternal realisation:

SOHAM. I am That. I am God. I am Love. Because that is all there is.

Christianity uses the image of God the Father and God the Son to illustrate this essence.

Hinduism calls it the state of Brahman, the state of absolute awareness.

Buddhism speaks about the Buddha within us, a state to be reached by practising non-attachment to anything material or illusory - the Nirvana.

In Islam, the Sufi understood that through meditation one can actually experience God within.

In Judaism, the story of Adam and Eve illustrates the experience of separation from God inside the dream world.

Many of the ancient mythologies and shamanic traditions found their own symbols and images to illustrate this reality.

Over the centuries, in many of the great religions this truth has become more and more hidden, and was often preserved only by some small sects, philosophical movements, or independant thinkers.

Today, with the abundance of access to information, from searching the internet to having almost every religious script translated in various languages, it has become much easier to find out about this knowledge that has been around for thousands of years. Or, in fact, forever.

Mikao Usui was on this path of self-realisation, following different Buddhist traditions, and after many years of searching he re-discovered the ancient technique of Reiki.

As a way to find his true self - and as a tool to cope with everyday life while still wandering on the material realm.

Reiki is often referred to as a healing energy - and this is what indeed it is:

It does healing as wholing, as re-connecting with your true self.

It helps healing the source of all sickness: The false idea of separation from who you really are. From God.

And it brings with it the good news: The fact that you have never actually left in the first place.

You just have to become aware of it.

May Reiki guide you on your way!
